Granny's porridge.

OMG! I just came back from flea market downstairs (fyi, I'm in school) and bought loads of awesome stuff at great low price! As much as I know their quality may be inferior but I'm still happy with my buys. At least it makes it easy for me to claim from my parents. HELLO! More than a handful of buys for $84. How great was that?

Okay, enough of cheap buys, imma blog about them on Saturday - BFF's birthday's - and I'm giving him a treat. After all the treats and gifts he have given to me during my birthday and Christmas, I'm finally giving him a treat.

Before that, it's like title suggest, (my) Granny's porridge and I know the picture of minced pork is kind of gross but the end result is yummy!

So here, you'll need:

1 cup rice. Rinsed twice and drain. I used 1 3/4 cups of rice.
A few onion and garlic. Chopped till it's tiny. If you chopped too much, keep for future use. Yes, they won't rot. Only dry up. Not enough? CHOP MORE!
100g minced pork. Defrost. To be marinated. I didn't weight when before I cook so estimate.
5 - 9 black mushrooms. Soaked in hot water till it soften and sliced.
4 tablespoons of scallop. Soaked in hot water till it expand (about 30 minutes). It's not something magical thus only expand a bit NOT a few times it's size.

Keep the water!
They may look dirty to you but they are the reason why the porridge smells nice. Since all the flavor's in the water. Remember this 2 water, you'll use it later.

Marinate your minced pork/ chicken!
Sesame oil, light soya sauce, corn flour and pepper (for the sake of adding).

1 table spoon for each but 1 teaspoon for corn flour.
MIX!

Heat up reasonable amount of oil.

Prepare a pot at the side.
Everytime I cook, I will make sure I have everything I need in reach and all of them lay out neatly. If not I'll make a mess later. In the kitchen or with the food.

Add onion and garlic.

Please stir fry them.
Stop now and then so they will turn gold faster.

Add black mushroom.
(stir) Fry.

When you're done smelling the fragrance released, add scallop in.
(stir) FRY!!

THEN!!
Add the rice in. And yes, stir fry them. You skip this step, your rice will be mediocre.

Pour in the water I asked you to remember to remove the leftover rice grains.

Stir and maybe see them bubble a bit.

Transfer it to the pot.

Add water.
1 cup rice: 2 cups water.
If it gets too sticky, add more water. Too watery, finger cross it'll dry up while when you boil it longer.

Stir.

Cover and wait for it boil.

Bubbling.

Add minced pork/ chicken!
NOT ALL OF THEM AT ONCE. Spoon them and add it bit by bit.

Cover and wait.

THERE!
Add soya sauce based on your preference. If you wanna get kidney failure, by all means add a lot. Make sure the rice is soft enough before adding. HOW? Try it yourself.

VOILA!

Next update will prolly be my BFF's birthday.

xoxo,
ClaireChing.
