I know there's people who looked down on nurses. Once I overheard a conversation on the train of a stranger and his friend. He was advising his friends what degree he should take and he said, "Don't bother take Nursing degree, take a degree only to help other people change diapers"
Shame on him to say that about nurses. Yes, its not hard to be a nurse. No need excellent grades to get into NYP/NP to study Nursing.. You can even go ITE to become a Enrolled Nurse. But its not a easy course.. We studied human body and illnesses, skills that not everyone will know, things and knowledge that needed brain. During times when other students are enjoying holiday, we were having our attachments. So we will become a more experienced nurses when we graduated. We've seen blood, organs, urine, shit.. Anything that can be in or out of a human. To be a good nurse, it isn't easy. With the overloaded work we need to do, from the demands of the patients and their relatives, some unappreciated doctors, some annoying colleagues and all other unpredictable events, we still have to do our job.. Hopefully with a smile. Without nurses, what will happen to the patients?
I'm happy about my job:) I like it when my patient is well. I'm sad when I have to see them go. I will never forget how my patients made me feel when they hold my hand and thanked me during my past attachments. Although I'm a scrub nurse now, contact with the patient is very minimum, I will always make sure I give my best to my patient when I meet them in the induction room, before transferring and after operation.
I hope one day when the stranger need nurses to care for him, he will regret what he said and appreciate them. If you see a nurse around, why not give them a smile to brighten up their day before work or to lessen their tiredness after their work.
So here, I wish all the brave Nurses out there...
HAPPY NURSES' DAY!<3
